Social Stars

Social Stars is a social skills program developed by a Speech-Language Pathologist and an Occupational Therapist.

Classes are small to ensure concepts are being learned and that students feel safe. Each week, the students will learn a new skill/topic and then reinforce those skills through sensory and/or gross motor activities. The children are also given time to play and practice their new skills with the aid of the therapists.

Class topics are individualized to meet the students’ needs. Topics may include:

  • Conversation Strategies

  • Attention and Focus

  • Friendship Building

  • Emotional Management

  • Play Skills

  • Problem Solving

Sample Class Structure:

  • Check-in on how everyones week is going and review last week’s skill

  • Lesson about the new skill and strategy

    • Teach and reinforce skills through role play and/or videos

  • Sensory and/or gross motor activity incorporating the week’s new skills

  • Centers are a way for the children to practice their new skills while playing games with others

Weekly summery emails will be provided after class to help parents reinforce the childrens’ new skills. You can find an example of a summary email here
